Duties of a Timekeeper in Basketball

1/28/2022

Timekeepers are responsible for operating the clocks at the games. The control may vary slightly from site to site, but the basics of how to operate the clock is what is important.

  1. The timekeeper stops the clock on the refs whistle.

  2. Start the clock on the refs signal, normally this is the ref dropping his/her hand.

  3. Optionally maintain the direction of the possession arrow but often the refs will do this on their own.

The Sport Mul Timer App app is useful for when you don’t have a scoreboard clock.
